Obituary for Mildred E. Kanik

Mildred E.  Kanik
Pasedena, TX. – There will be a funeral service at 9 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Avenue in Youngstown, with the Rev. Edward P. Noga celebrating the Mass for Mildred E. Kanik, 87, formerly of Boardman, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016. She was born December 21, 1928 in Youngstown, the daughter of Samuel and Ann (Krossman) Peloza. Mildred graduated from the Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She then went on to become a pediatric registered nurse at Southside Hospital, retiring in 1986 after 34 years of service. She was a member of Nurses Association, Boardman Garden Club, and Doll Club. Her husband, Stephen F. Kanik whom she married July 5, 1952, passed away February 9, 1976. Mildred will always be remembered lovingly by three children, Stephen A. (Sandy) Kanik of St. Louis, Tina Marie Mikeska of Pasadena, TX., and Mary Kaye (Joe) Falcony of Newburgh, IN.; two grandsons, Daniel (Jennifer) and Christopher Thurik of Houston; granddaughter, Sister Lynn Marie Falcony, O.S.B. of Ferdinand, IN.; two great-grandchildren, Clarisa and J.D. Thurik; and three sisters, Rita Nolfi, Bonnie (Tom) Augustine, and Georgenne (John) Pavlic; and two brothers, Samuel Peloza, and Steve (Carolyn) Peloza. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Rose Peloza; brother-in-law, Tony Nolfi; and son-in-law, Frank Mikeska. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests monetary donations be made to Northeastern Ohio Adoption Services, 5000 East Market Street #26, Warren, OH 44484 or to OperationSMILE.org. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 18 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman.
