BOARDMAN - Samuel P. Maravola, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 11, 1930, in Youngstown, the son of Ralph and Carmel (Rocco) Maravola.
He attended East High School and courageously served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. “Sam” then went on to work as a crane operator for U.S. Steel, retiring in 1980. He had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed watching sporting events on television, going out to dinner, and family gatherings.
Sam will always be remembered lovingly by his wife, the former Janie Mace, whom he married, Aug. 10, 1990; four children, Sister Marie Maravola O.S.U. of Niles, Ralph Vincent (Paulette) Maravola of Boardman, Theresa Mohamed of Youngstown, and Gloria Jean (Steve) Maravola of Akron; stepson Randy (Terry) Stone of Struthers; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and pet cat, Susie.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Margaret DeGidio, whom he married on June 11, 1955, who passed away in 1989; three brothers, Andy, Jim, and Pat Maravola; and sister Ange DePizzo.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 7 p.m. funeral service, with the Rev. Kevin Peters celebrating.
