Youngstown – Paul M. Rupert Sr., 81, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019. Paul was born Sept. 23, 1937 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of Donald F. and Jessie E. “Tillie” (Hippo) Rupert. Paul courageously served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Arcadia. He then went on to retire from the Railroad as an engineer. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, the Youngstown Maennerchor Club, Masons, the Girard American Legion, and past President of the United Transportation Union. Paul was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler Fan and loved all baseball, from little league to the Pittsburgh Pirates. His greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his wife of over 63 years, Carol, children and grandchildren. Paul will always be remembered lovingly by his wife, the former Carol Wilfong, whom he married Nov. 23, 1955; five children, Debra (John) Thompson of Bedford, Pa., Denise Rupert of Naples, Fl., Bonnie (Michael) Rupert-Lizotte of Boardman, Paula (Randy) Niddel of Vienna, and Paul Jr. (Melissa) Rupert of Cranberry Township, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald S. (Patricia) Rupert of Vandergrift, Pa., and Frederick Rupert of Brookfield; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved pet cats. Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a brother, Kemberly Saltsman; and grandson, Jason Cannistra. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Quaintance officiating.
