Obituary for Alida Marie (Joseph) Treharn

POLAND - Alida Marie (Joseph) Treharn, 67, passed away on Thursday morning, Dec. 27, 2018, at her home in Poland, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Please join Alida¹s family for a celebration of her life on Saturday, Jan.
5, 2019, at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 397 S. Jackson St. in Youngstown.
Family and friends may call from 9 to 10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. officiated by Fr. Kevin Peters.
Alida was born in Youngstown, to the late Joseph M. and Maria (Cefalu) Joseph on May 29, 1951.
Her proud father often said that strangers would stop them on the street and remark at what a beautiful baby she was. Alida was the beloved granddaughter of the late Mansour and Sadie Joseph and the late Anthony and Francis
(Lipari) Cefalu.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Charles Treharn, whom she married on Sept. 25, 1976; her son, Matthew John Treharn (Amber Biebl) of York, Pa.; and grandchildren Aubrey and Micah.
Alida was welcomed to heaven by her eldest son, Justin Ross Treharn, who passed away on Sept. 10, 2011.
Above all, Alida was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who always took care of her family.
She will be sadly missed by her siblings, Bruce (Karen) Joseph of Columbiana, Valerie Joseph (John Vranich) of Gibsonia. Pa., and Anthony
(Jeanne) Joseph of Delaware; sister-in-law Lucy Woodward of Dallas, TX; nine nieces and nephews; and many cousins whom she grew up with.
Alida was an avid reader and a lifelong learner who always excelled in school. She attended Sacred Heart and St. Edward schools, and was a 1969 graduate of Ursuline High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1973 and a Master of Science in Education in 1987 from Youngstown State University.
In 1973, Alida began her career as a French and Spanish teacher at Howland High School, where she lead several student trips to France and Spain. She later taught for the Youngstown City School District and then went into administration. At the time of her death she was the Director of State and Federal programs for the district.
Alida will be remembered as a dedicated, selfless, and compassionate person.
In her teens she was a swim instructor and camp counselor at the YWCA, where she was also a synchronized swimmer on the Spray Club swim team. Through her young adult life she sang in the choir and taught CCD at St. Maron Church.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Amy Awaida and the staff at The Hope Center who took exceptional care of her during her treatment.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the St. Angela Merici Building Fund, Fr. Kevin Peters, 397 S. Jackson St., Youngstown, OH 44506.
