Richard graduated from East High School Class of 1959. He joined the U.S. Marines, which to the day, he said was one of his proudest accomplishments in his life. He served from 1959-1963. “SEMPER-FI. Once a Marine always a Marine.”
Upon discharge, he was a sales manager at Appliance Wholesalers, later becoming a sales representative for R.J. Bertelli Homes, until his retirement in 2007.
Most of all, Richard enjoyed spending time with his family. He was everyone’s hero!
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 43 years, Betty “Jean” (Johnson) DeChalk; and all of their children, Tanja (Richard) Starling, Richard DeChalk II (Tracy), Tammie DeChalk, Denise (Michael) Rapovy and Rhonda Learn; grandchildren Shavaun DeChalk, Nicole Jackson, Gina Jackson, Bradley Learn, Josh Learn, Jeffery Hood, Nick Jones, Taylor Frenzel, Shay Jones, Justine Brookshire, Bronson Hood, Danielle Starling, Cody Learn, Erika DeChalk; and 17 great grandchildren.
