Obituary for Rosemary J. "Rosie" Gries Labato

Rosemary J. "Rosie" Gries Labato
Canfield – Rosemary J. “Rosie” Gries Labato was born July 14, 1961 in Youngstown to Eugene and Stella Gries. A 1979 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, she became an outstanding hairstylist and owner of Techni-Cuts Salon in Austintown. Upon retiring, she devoted a great deal of time volunteering at dog shelters, wishing to bring them all home with her to spend time with her “Beagle Boys” Bruno, Duke, Harley, and Vinnie.
Music was an important part of her life; she could name the artist and year for many songs. She attended well over a hundred concerts ranging from the Youngstown Symphony to Earth, Wind, and Fire. She enjoyed drinking Coca-Cola and spending time in Niagara Falls, Canada and Mackinac Island, Michigan. Being a breast cancer survivor herself, she styled hair and wigs for others. When she wasn’t tending to the dogs or at a concert, she was cooking or canning. She loved changing recipes and creating her own. She loved sharing her creations with others. She would give Giada De Laurentiis serious competition with her culinary talents. Family was important to her, opening her home to her mother-in-law Rosemary Labato and taking care of her mom, Stella in her later years. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 36 wonderful years, Dominic Labato of Canfield; brother Raymond (Gerry) Gries of Girard; sisters, Barbara (Bill) LaRosa of Austintown and Martha (Ish) Lopez of Canfield; sister-in-law Rose (Richard) Karl of Youngstown; brother-in-law, Arthur Labato of North Lima; sister-in-law, Regina (Samuel) Racketa of Girard; numerous aunts, nieces and nephews; and her beloved “Beagle Boys.” Family and friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
