Obituary for Nicholas A. "Nick" Gioppo Sr.

Nicholas A. "Nick"  Gioppo Sr.
There will be a 10 am. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church in Poland on Monday, April 16, 2018, for Nicholas "Nick" A. Gioppo Sr., 76, who passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018. He was born September 28, 1941, in Youngstown, the son of Nicholas and Margaret (Sandusky) Gioppo. He was a 1959 Campbell Memorial High School graduate. He attended Youngstown State and Kent State Universities and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was a pipefitter and member of Local Union 669. Nick was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing over the years and always looked forward to social events with family and friends. Nick leaves his wife, the former Margaret (Peggy) Palazzo, whom he married on June 25, 1966, son, Nicholas and daughter-in-law, Linda of Utica, NY; and two grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail who brought so much joy to Nick and the entire family. Nick is also survived by a sister, Barbara (Daniel) Delisio of Poland; brother Eugene "Jim" (Brenda) Gioppo of Boardman; three aunts, Gert Sandusky of California, Eva Sandusky of Colorado, and Julia Palazzo of Boardman, uncle, Andy Sandusky of Poland; many wonderful nieces and nephews and special godchildren; and never to be forgotten all the loving, caring cousins and longtime friends with whom Nick enjoyed many happy hours and fun times. Nick was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Eugene Gioppo; brother, Anthony "Skip" Gioppo; and his parents-in-law, Frank and Peg Palazzo. The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses who cared for Nick throughout the years and a special thank you to the entire staff at Caprice Healthcare Center for their care, compassion, and kindness always shown to Nick and his family members. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
