Obituary for Robert Anthony "Bob" Gorvet

Robert “Bob” Anthony Gorvet, 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2017 with his daughters, Christy and Sandi by his side. Bob was born on April 14, 1953 in Youngstown, the son of Bernard William and Josephine Ann (Pisano) Gorvet. He grew up in Youngstown and was a 1971 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Bob served in the Air Force and was employed at General Motors for over 30 years. He regularly attended St. Christine Catholic Church and volunteered twice a week at the St. Angela Merici/Sacred Heart Catholic Church Soup Kitchen. Bob coached Babe Ruth and Class B baseball for over 30 years. One of his most memorable moments was coaching the 1990 Babe Ruth World Series Championship team. Bob had a smile that could light up a room. He was a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and The Atlanta Falcons. His memories will be carried on by his mother, Josephine “Tootsie” Gorvet of Boardman; daughters Christy (Jeff) Liber of Cortland and Sandi Gorvet (Ray Minute) of Newton Falls; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Jacob and Luke Liber of Cortland, Victoria Leaghty, Clara Cahalin and Anthony Minute of Newton Falls; his brothers, Bernard “Brusha” Gorvet of Boardman and Anthony “Tony” (Janet) Gorvet of Youngstown; nephews Bernie and Marc Gorvet; nieces Candace (Paul) Wanat and Marissa Gorvet. He will be sadly missed by his dog, Billie and his cat, Bones. Bob was preceded in death by his father. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at St. Christine Church, 3125 South Schenley Ave. in Youngstown with Rev. John Keehner officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the St. Angela Merici/Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen, 400 Lincoln Park Drive, Youngstown, OH. 44506 or Animal Charity of Ohio, 4140 Market Street, Boardman, OH. 44512.
