Obituary for Mary (DiBenedetto) Rossi Nicolli

Our Dear Mother Mary passed from her earthly life into God's hands on December 20, 2017. We believe He said, "Well done good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21). Mary recently stated to one of her nursing home aids, "I've had a wonderful life and would not change a thing." Mary's first and foremost wish was that her children stayed together. She helped perpetuate this with her Monday night football events at her home (evolved into shot and beer card games), and her Saturday lunches where she always had assigned chores for her boys. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, always speaking highly of Monsignor Cariglio. She was a member of St. Monica Guild, enjoying singing in the church choir with her many friends and director Mark Izzo. She was part of the 54rd Cursillo in 2003. Mary enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, and canning tomatoes was an annual ritual. In her later years, she was introduced to painting, discovering she had a talent for it and was awarded several prizes. She always kept a proper home and enjoyed bird watching and her hydrangeas. She was featured twice on local television, once making her pizza and most recently making biscotti. She was employed at Anzevinio's Italian Store, Pilgrim Manufacturing, Wells Department Store, and Jewel Mart. Mary was born at home at 440 Lansing Avenue in Youngstown on November 16, 1921, the daughter of Diedato and Anna (Guardiana) DiBenedetto. She leaves to cherish her memory four sons and one daughter, Alexander (Christine) of Lenexa, KS, Vincent (Marie), and Ronald (Sandy) of Boardman, Daniel (Patti) of Canfield, and Patti Arnoto of Centreville, VA; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vincent Rossi Sr.; second husband, Leo G. Nicolli; parents; four sisters, Josephine, Antoinette, Edith, and Margaret; and brother, Julio. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica in Youngstown with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio celebrating. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all of Mary's caregivers at The Assumption Village for the kind and compassionate care shown to her. Family and friends may visit the Book of Memories at www.rossifunerals.com to view this tribute and send condolences to Mary's family.
