BOARDMAN – There will be funeral services held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave. in Boardman, with Father Thomas M. Constantine celebrating the service for Aristidis Papadopoulos, 88, who passed away Saturday evening, March 25.
Aristidis was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Pixos Prespa, Greece, the son of Spero and Christina (Michaelidis) Papadopoulos.
Aristidis fought in the Revolutionary War for four years and then served in the Greek Army for three years before he emigrated to America in 1954.
In 1960, he operated the Pine Panel Inn in Youngstown. In 1966, he owned the Splendid Restaurant and Lounge on South Ave. for over 35 years.
Aristidis was well-known to everyone as a happy, fun-loving, and caring man who lived life to the fullest. Aristidis was one-of-a-kind and gave of his time helping out any way he could.
He loved to dance, especially enjoyed showing off his dancing talents to his friends.
Aristidis’ wife, Helen G. “Eleni” (Vlahopoulos), whom he married June 11, 1950, passed away May 18, 2007.
Aristidis will be remembered lovingly by his two children, Athena Bialik, and Yanni “John” Papadopoulos; four grandchildren, Aristidis “Ari” Papadopoulos, Joey, Stephen, and Jonathan Bialik; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially his cousin, Vasiliki Ioannidis, who was more like a sister to him.
Besides his wife and parents, Aristidis was preceded in death by his son, Athanasios “Tom” Papadopoulos; beloved son-in-law, Joseph Bialik; and five sisters.
Friends may call Tuesday evening, March 28, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., where there will be a Trisagion service at 7 p.m.
Friends may call again Wednesday morning from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service at the St. John Greek Orthodox Church.
