Condolence: Dear Family,
My deepest sympathy to everyone. Steve touched so many lives while counseling at Turning Point Counseling Services in Struthers, Ohio. We attended classes together at YSU in counseling. My office was next to his, he had great insights into client issues,wonderful collaborator. He was very kind to everyone, never had a bad word for anyone. He was so proud of his photography and displayed it in his office. He spoke of his Red Cross work all the time and tried to recruit others! Mostly what I remember about Steve was that he was like a butterfly weaving in and out of our lives at exactly the time we needed him most.

Condolence: Anyone at Robinwood Lane School in the 1960s knew the Ilko family. Because I was behind Steve one year I got to know him better in high school. There he was known as "Flash" because of his presence at just about every student event that took place.

Condolence: At Boardman High School, Steve was everywhere - photographing everything (band & choir practices, play rehearsals, cafeteria & study hall) as he quietly captured moments for the Crier - a treasured book documenting our shared experiences of high school. Steve Ilko was steady & clear and full of small kindnesses. I missed him when he graduated.
Learning now that Steve helped after 9/11 and Katrina comes not as a surprise, but as a confirmation of the thoughful people-oriented person Steve was even 45 years ago.

Condolence: I was so sorry to hear about Steve's passing away. I always enjoyed working with him at the Tribune Chronicle. He was a great photographer and later a great counselor.

Condolence: It was my pleasure meeting Steve and helping him thru his final journey to be in heaven. He has a special place in my heart as does his dear family. I know he is at peace as he was well taken care of by the most loving and caring family someone could have. Rest peacefully Steve and keep watching over all of them as I know you will. Mary and family be strong, as Steve is in a place where their is no pain or sadness, just complete beauty and happiness. I love you all, such a great family!

Condolence: From the moment I knew of Steve at Boardman High School I was jealous of his ability and talent. He was a phenomenal photographer in high school, so much so that I wanted to do what he did, just didn't have the chops. But that longing led me to journalism anyway, and I like to think Steve had a hand in that.
Go in God's grace and Rest In Peace my friend. You will never be forgotten.
