Nellie (Mediate) Lellio

Lowellville – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville with Rev. John Jerek celebrating and Rev. Msgr. John Zuraw concelebrating the Mass for Nellie Lellio, 83, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Nellie (Natalicia) was born on January 20, 1932 in Cirella, Provincia di Reggio Calabria, Italy, the daughter of Vincenzo and Rose (Feo) Mediate. Nellie came to the United States at the age of three and resided in Hillsville, PA, until moving to Lowellville in 1951. She was a 1949 graduate of Bessemer High School. Nellie briefly worked at McKelvey’s Department Store prior to her most fulfilling job of homemaker. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, attending daily mass, St. Anthony Novena, and Stations of the Cross. She bowled many years in the Zodiac Bowling League and played cards with the Puella Card Club. She enjoyed taking bus trips to New York and Atlantic Cities with her husband, sisters, and friends as well as going on family vacations to the beach. She was a superb cook and was the happiest when cooking Sunday dinners for her family. Her eggplants were everyone’s favorite. The grandchildren also loved eating Grandma’s fluffy pancakes. Nellie loved attending her grandchildren’s activities as well as tailgating at YSU football games. Her husband, Frank J. Lellio Sr., whom she married December 29, 1951, passed away March 27, 2003. Nellie will be remembered lovingly by four children, Mary Ann Davis (fiancé Rick Coy), Laraine (Tony) Matisi, Roseann O’Nesti, and Frank J. Jr. (Ursula) Lellio; eleven grandchildren, Amanda Davis, Allison (Steve) Dimoff, John, Zachary, and Michael Matisi, Anthony and Matthew O’Nesti, and Gianna, Marissa, Julianna, and Francesca Lellio; two great granddaughters, Rosalie Annalise and Olivia Mae Dimoff; two brothers, Rocco (Anna Marie) Mediate, and Anthony (Anita) Mediate; two sisters, Mary (Frank) Tarantine, and Jeanne (Bob) Dovich; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lucy Donofrio, Angeline Fuline, Rose Cavalier, Andrew Lellio, and Donald (Sandra) Lellio; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her sister Antoinette “Nettie” Mediate; a brother-in-law, Dominic Lellio and sister-in-law, Virginia Marapese. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman. Interment will take place at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Special Care Unit at The Assumption Village for the loving and compassionate care shown to our mom.
